Pool

Greeted by a nasty man outside reception ranting in Greek because we'd pulled up on the steep slope, behind his Skoda, whilst my partner nipped inside to "check in"... We've visited this hotel before so knew the layout, and knew where the main carpark was, and that it wasn't worthwhile parking up there to have to walk down... Check in... Back up for cases.. Down to the room... Blah blah....
Either way... We ignored him and carried about our business.. Don't know if he's an employee or just a driver but he was seen around and about over the next day or so... Wearing a name badge on his shirt...
Just ignore him. Very rude and surly looking.
.... I digress.
Back to the hotel.
We've been before, and experienced the great, but steep location, and the "Fawlty Towers" feeling to the place....
We previously put the lack of overall "management" of the property and apparent shortage of staff, down to the recovery of the industry after Covid - 19....
But here we are a year later, and most things haven't improved.
There seems to be very few staff, even less than previously, it's almost as if the owners (believed to be a Bank) are running the place on a tiny budget, but it's not really working.
The staff are all really good, hard working, polite, enthusiastic, but seem to be run ragged trying to do too many jobs rather than concentrate on one aspect, and so it well, rather than "just enough"...
There needs to be proper management structure, staff manager, catering /bar manager, maintenance and facilities manager, with enough staff for each department....
Breakfast was good, probably one area that's been improved from our previous visit, apart from the lack of "tea" bags... Plenty of lemon tea/camomile/green.... But no normal tea bags.  That said, the coffee machine has been upgraded, and is very good.
Upstairs, the "bar" facility and evening restaurant seems extremely "lacking"... The bar appears unmanned pretty much all the time, but a sign would suggest it's actually open until 9.30pm... Surely, it would be simple enough for the receptionist to be stationed behind the bar, which is within sight of the entrance/reception desk..?.... Multi-tasking, as that seems to be the order of the day...
Perhaps some background music and at least a suggestion that residents can socialise in this area...?
The restaurant isn't somewhere we've actually tried for an evening meal, but we've heard poor reports, that it's just "going through the motions" with a limited menu & staff..... If that's the case, why  bother?.... Don't charge people for Full Board if you can't really provide it.
Rooms are serviced daily, and the housekeeping staff do a great job, yes, the rooms are dated, but they're clean and functional, with good air-conditioning and hot showers.
The pool.... Great pool with awesome views across the bay,  but a little bit of maintenance around the poolside would be nice.... There are weeds growing between the tiles at the deep end of the pool, surely it would only take 5 minutes for a maintenance man (maybe Mr Grumpy I mentioned earlier?) to remove and clean the area..?... Also, the glass panels and steel railings around the pool balcony area need a good clean,   last time we were here they were gleaming, but now they appear dirty and unloved.... It would be lovely to see them sparkling once again.
Get some more staff, treat them, and manage them properly, especially the Ukrainians, who are very efficient but exploited... 
This place could be the best hotel in the area, but for want of a bit of investment in time and money. 
Hopefully it will happen. 
Will we return?

Could do better.... So much potential....

Splendid view from our hotel balcony. Panoramic sea vista. Loved it. Room was comfortable but dated. Hotel staff were friendly and the cleaners worked hard and kept rooms clean. Beds made daily. Excellent.

The only down side was we booked half board and paid a lot extra for it. Breakfast was ok. Enough choice. The evening meal was extremely disappointing. The set menu was to say the least basic. Greek salad was good. However, the meals were very poor. One main meal was chicken leg with chips, nothing else. Looked like a child’s dinner. One of the appetisers was described as fried potatoes with mozzarella. Meaning, cheesy chips!!! The food according to the menu was mostly frozen, probably imported and heated up. The sweet was tiny! For instance, Baklava. I took a photograph of it next to a teaspoon. The spoon head was bigger! My wife and I stuck it out for 5 nights as we’d paid for the option. Then we relented and the last two nights we paid to go and eat at the local tavernas. On the 5th night for dinner out of all the half board guests, there was just my wife and I and another family. Everyone else had given up and done the same. You may think I’m bleating and exaggerating but the evening meal was the worst I’ve ever had in Kefalonia and my wife and I have been many times over the years to the point we’ve lost count! To sum up, hotel is fine just AVOID the half board option and eat out. Shame.

Stunning views. Tired rooms. Food very poor quality. We nicknamed it “faulty towers”

Excellent hotel in a brilliant location. Stunning views overlooking sea and mountains. Pool area lovely. Room nice and great views. Clean and maid service excellent. Staff wonderful and very accommodating. Breakfast was very tasty and plentiful. Perfect location for getting around other parts of the island. Plenty of lovely tavernas and bars to explore during the evening. Couple of things: 1. The hotel could do with a little love and care. By this I mean there are a few things that could be easily done without spending much money - weeding around the pool for example, just to bring the standard up ever so slightly.  2. Our shower couldn’t be fastened to the wall so meant we had to shower by holding shower head  - not a deal breaker but something simple that could be rectified in the future. Good value for money. Would recommend for sure!

Beautiful views and wonderful staff. Hotel a little tired but great character and would still recommend for sure!

The view of the bay and the town is spectacular, and the pool the best we have experienced at any holiday hotel. If you like swimming I thoroughly recommend it. The water is regularly tested and the pools regularly cleaned. I can’t praise the Ukrainian staff enough for their willingness to help and their hard work. We found plenty of choice available for breakfast and the pool bar, though we didn’t eat lunch, appeared to have plenty of options. If you want peace and quiet then this is ideal. At night listen out for the Scops Owl which makes a sound like an electronic beep. Steps – yes there are many but if you are reasonably fit you shouldn’t have a problem. I believe the current owners only took over two years ago and are clearly trying to upgrade the rooms. There is a very good taverna about 100 metres from the hotel. The acid test is would we go back? Yes, hopefully later this year. With a bit more work this hotel could be a real gem.

First visit and we will return

Great views but nothing else.

The  floor would be softer than the bed, the bathroom was dirty and outdated with a sink 600 millimetres from the ground and a shower curtain with the railing hanging off.

Overall the room tatty with a TV screen that was miniature.

The breakfast was inedible but the pool bar served decent drinks.

Friendly staff but not very competent.

Definitely not a 4 star hotel more likely 2.5.

Great view but that’s it
