Pool

Spotless hotel, lovely pool area with very tasty and well presented snacks. Having the choice of having breakfast outside in the sun is a bonus. Very cold water and biscuits on offer at reception is a nice touch. Polite and helpful staff… I certainly recommend staying there. 
4 stars only: we were in room 224 just underneath the breakfast restaurant (which is on the third floor) and we were awaken in the morning at 7:30 by the unpleasant noise of chairs being moved by customers (I mentioned this at reception).

Great hotel

Great stay as always. Lovely super clean bright little hotel with lots of nice touches - pool towels / safe / water all included which is great. Stayed there many times over the years and it never disappoints. Breakfast on the balcony with sea views is just lovely & a nice selection of breakfast stuff. Stayed for 6 nights & had amazing weather the whole time. 

Don’t often use the pool as go to the beach & when I did this time felt the deck tiles & sunbeds could do with a decent clean.

A return visit …

So, to be balanced I have done both.

We have just returned from our second stay at the Velamar and it was a vastly different experience to the first stay.

Except for Tuesday evening "Piano" there is no entertainment (The bar takings must have shown a large growth) and little things have been withdrawn such as milk in the rooms to accompany the tea and coffee supplied (A minor thing but very important)

We dread to think what would be in the next line of cuts, our last stay prompted us to give the room service 15 Euros thank you but this time we decided against a tip because we found the service completely sketchy and definitely not to the same standard. 

The pool area is run with NO voice and allows guest to play music without using personal head-phones and allowing guests to directly pitch sunbeds under the pool shower (I like to shower pre and post swims and this act stopped me from using the shower) claiming sunbeds early morning is important because they are few in number compared to guest numbers.

We remember the Velamar before the "Boutique" upgrade, and it's in danger of slipping back into that era with little visible investment.

Hotel in decline.

Just returned from a 9 night stay at Velamar & literally couldn't find fault with this hotel.
I was a bit apprehensive about booking a 3* hotel, but the reviews convinced me otherwise & I'm glad I did.
The public areas - reception, lounge bar, lobby loos, pool area, breakfast room  - were modern & kept spotlessly clean by the hardworking staff. The bedroom was very clean too & the bed was very large & super comfortable.
Breakfast had a decent choice of hot food, pastries, bread, fruit etc available & it was nice to be able to sit on the terrace to enjoy it. The food at the pool bar was also good & reasonably priced. The deals with various food options plus a drink were particularly good value. The cocktails in the lounge were really good & made with  premium spirits. These were also pretty well priced. 
Every member of staff we came across was very polite & happy to help, but also discreet & not too in your face. 
The location may be too quiet for some, but we liked having a base out of the throng of Albufeira. There were some nice restaurants close by & a cool cocktail bar (Cabana) that seemed a bit undiscovered. We also visited 3 lovely beaches within walking distance. Maria Luisa was a particular highlight.
The bus into Albufeira was really easy & the taxi back only about 12 euros. We also got a bus into Villamoura & taxi back, which wasn't too bad either.
I think Velamar is 3* because it doesn't have loads of facilities - gym, entertainment programme etc - but it does definitely have a feel of a 4* boutique hotel. We definitely plan to return.


Can't fault lovely Velamar

My 3rd time here, the service from reception to breakfast to pool area are amazing. The bed and the room are very comfortable and very clean !!! WiFi is a bit up and down . The location is nice as quiet area of Albufeira. You have a beach close by like 500m walking distance.

I will be back !

Very comfortable staying

Velamar Boutique Hotel was fully renovated in 2016 and reopened with a Boutique hotel conceptty offering a total of 73 rooms and 2 suites.
