Puerto Banus, Costa del Sol

Puerto Banus

Named after the businessman, Jose Banus, who saw the potential here, Puerto Banus is possibly the most glamorous location on the Costa Del Sol. A marina, housing the berths of some of the rich and famous, competes with the nearby beaches as the place to be seen. A traditional Spanish feel combines with modern luxury to create a resort for everyone.

When to go

July and August can see temperatures reaching 30⁰c or more, and the average temperatures make for beach weather from May all way through to October. Even in the winter months, the weather will be a welcome break from Europe.

Top Attractions

The Puerto Banus Marina is the place to be. After drinking surrounded by luxury yachts, you could catch a ride to see whales and dolphins out at sea. For some wetter water action, why not try out the Costa Waterpark?

Beaches

Puerto Banus is home to three beaches, two of which boast Blue Flags. Playa Rio Verde is reached by crossing the river over a wooden footbridge and is in a natural setting, quite narrow but great for quiet relaxation in the sun.

Formally having Sean Connery as one of its high profile residents, Playa Neuva Andulucia is a series of interconnected beaches to the west of the town. To the east is Playa de Levante with its warm shallow waters and acres of sand which is popular amongst families.

Dining

There is such a great choice of venues for your meals. The beaches, The Marina and the old town all offer a variety of styles of cuisine. Enjoy some local seafood whilst overlooking the beach at Piucaro or indulge in French fine dining near The Marina at Restaurante Los Bandidos.

Entertainment

Why not enjoy cocktails on a floating bar before heading for some karaoke and maybe a club? A lively scene can be easily found. If tapas or traditional Spanish fare takes your fancy with a bustling, but quieter feel, then wander into the old town and soak up the atmosphere.

Culture

The town is home to some fine and unusual art. Not to be missed is the 3.5 tonne statue of a rhinoceros by Salvador Dali. Equally impressive is the 26m tall statute “La Victoria”.

Adventure and Sports

With such a varied coastline, the options for watersports are endless. Exploring caves in a kayak, rock climbing, water skiing or snorkeling are all readily available. Alternatively, stay on land and enjoy some mountain biking or a 4X4 adventure.

Getting around

A compact town, Puerto Banus can easily be explored on foot.

Venturing further afield may require a taxi, but these are regulated and a fixed price can be agreed beforehand. There is also a bus service linking with nearby Marbella and beyond and there are many companies offering private transfers to and from Marbella airport.
