Playa de Palma, Majorca

Playa de Palma

The stunning resort of Playa de Palma is situated on a 6km stretch of peaceful coastline, affording visitors the chance to stroll the sun-kissed boulevard, before unwinding upon powder-gold sands lapped by crystalline Mediterranean waters.

The resort is perfect for those wanting a relaxing Majorcan holiday. Beyond the beach, you will find a plentiful selection of quirky bars and restaurants serving a tempting selection of cuisines. If you're looking for a quieter resort in Majorca, with the option to easily explore your surroundings at leisure, then Playa de Palma is a superb choice for your next getaway.

When to go

As you would expect for this part of the world, the typical Mediterranean climate keeps things warm all year-round, with temperatures hitting their peak of high-20s/low-30s in July and August. As ever, the shoulder months found in spring and autumn are cooler, but still very pleasant and visiting during these times may also help you to avoid the larger crowds.

Top Attractions

With a literal translation meaning Palma Beach, it should come of little surprise that the top attraction here is indeed the beach itself.

If you time your visit just right, however, you’ll be able to enjoy the annual Majorca Carnival (held on the Thursday before Lent) which is a week-long celebration including street parades, live music, and the best selection of traditional food to be found.

Beaches

The resort itself is built around the eponymous beach, making it the most popular stretch of powder-soft sands in the region. It matches up to all of the traditional requirements you’d expect of a top-notch Spanish beach, including restaurants, bars and shops that are backed onto golden sands, balnearios and a wide selection of water sports.

Dining

Among the many cafes, bistros and restaurants found close to the beach and elsewhere within Playa de Palma, you’ll be spot for choice. Sunshine Tapas, Sushi and Steaks has a menu every bit as varied as its name suggests. El Patio serves international dishes and is highly recommended. And for a taste of something a bit more local, Restaurante Marisqueria Sa Barca provides excellent traditional dishes.

Entertainment

With slim pickings nearby, a wider selection opens up if you’re prepared to take the 15-minute drive along the coast to Majorca’s capital, Palma. But the real action is a 10-15 taxi journey away in El Arenal. It’s like a mini-Magaluf, complete with beach bars, nightclubs and dancing till dawn.

Culture

With the city’s striking Medieval old town and the world-famous Palma Cathedral, the trip to Palma should be top of your list for cultural expeditions and historic tours.

Adventure and Sports

For adrenaline-filled activities right on your doorstep, the Playa de Palma strip of sand is littered with water sports including windsurfing, snorkelling, jet skiing and paragliding. For water-based fun of a different nature, the water park Aqualand at nearby El Arenal is the biggest one on the island and promises heaps of fun.

Back on the coast, the Speed Boat Tour and Sailing Tour will allow you to take in the beautiful shoreline scenery from a different angle, and you may be able to participate in a bit of sea caving and cliff jumping while you’re out there.

Getting around

There’s a good bus service that connects the resort to the larger city of Palma. There are also taxis available on the main roads.

With its good transport links, the neighbouring resorts of Playa de Palma boasts a livelier choice of entertainment opportunities and water sports, if you decide to venture a little further.
