Golf del Sur, Tenerife

Golf del Sur

Nestled on the southern coast of Tenerife, Golf del Sur is a lively, picturesque resort with swaying palm trees, lush surroundings, and plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. Of course, as the name suggests, visitors will also find several golf courses, ranges and clubhouses nearby.

When to go

Tenerife is hot year-round, with temperatures rarely below 20°C even in the winter, which means you can sunbathe comfortably even in December or January. But, for those looking to really heat things up, head to Gold del Sur between July and September. During these months, you’ll experience virtually zero rainfall, highs of 29°C and lows of 20°.

Top Attractions

If you’re a golfer, you’re in luck! Golf del Sur is a 27-hole golf complex that first opened in 1987. Today, it’s one of the best courses in Europe. If golf isn’t your thing, don’t worry! Hang around the marina to people watch or shop or take a short trip to San Blas where you’ll find a slightly more buzzing commercial area.

Beaches

The beaches on Golf del Sur are rocky, but Los Cristianos and El Medano are close by.

El Medano is a small(ish) beach but has a good selection of shops and restaurants. This is also the place to go for wind and kite surfing. The atmosphere is very laid back, making it a perfect place to read, nap, or sunbathe.

The beaches of Los Cristianos are beautiful and turquoise with seas calm and shallow enough for children. There’s also a busy promenade that runs along the beach with shops, restaurants and cafes.

Dining

Whether you’re looking for fish and chips, local fish, pasta, or a Chinese, you’ll find it in or near Gold del Sur. As a resort town, there are options for everyone, at all price points. If you’re looking for a sure thing, head to Calle la Marina and take a walk. Here you’ll fine at least a dozen restaurants, most with stunning sea views.

Entertainment

Golf del Sur is quiet for the most part, although you’ll find bars (there’s an Irish pub!) on the local strip and some hotels will have nightclubs. If you want to go ‘out out’, head to San Blas or Playa de las Americas which both have a more upbeat nightlife.

Adventure and Sports

If you’re looking for a unique experience, you have to take a trip with Submarine Safaris. You’ll have the chance to get up close and personal (while staying safe) with sting rays and other fish, making for the perfect holiday photo opportunity. If you aren’t afraid of heights, you could have a go at wind or kite surfing and, if you really want an adrenaline rush, why not check out Tenerife from above with a helicopter sightseeing tour or paraglide over the stunning local landscape. Of course, there’s also golf and plenty of it.

Getting around

Golf del Sur is just 4km from Tenerife South Airport. From here, visitors can either hire a car or arrange for a cab. If you don’t hire a car but want to get around (specifically to the gold courses) there are public buses that run regularly. If you don’t plan on leaving the small resort, you’ll be able to easily access everything on foot.
