Playa de Las Americas, Tenerife

Playa de Las Americas

Boasting glorious white sandy beaches and famous for its nightlife, Playa De Las Americas is a holiday favourite. The resort is situated on the South West corner of Tenerife, one of the beautiful Canary Islands.

When to go

The summer months (from May to October) can see temperatures 30⁰c or more. Regardless of when you visit, you’ll be guaranteed warmth, sunshine and very little in the way of rainfall. Even between October and December, the areas rainest season, there is a maximum of just 15mm per month of rain.

Top Attractions

The incredible Siam Park Water Kingdom, set in Siamese themed grounds, is a must for a fun-packed day. There’s as much fun to be had in the water at Aqualand with its rides and slides. Grab the chance to meet the dolphins and learn about the park’s involvement in the conservation of this wonderful species.

You can also find The Tenerife Zoo and Monkey Park just ten minutes from Playa De Las Americas.

Beaches

The main beach, Playa de Troya offers a vast expanse of inviting soft white sand and is perfect for sunbathing or swimming in the warm waters. Along the promenade, there is a choice of refreshments and food.

Alternatively, a short trip south will bring you to Playa Del Camison, a quieter setting surrounded by palm trees but still equipped with everything you need for a day out at the beach.

Dining

Anyone who enjoys dining out is in for a treat. The bustling promenade is packed with a mouth-watering array of restaurants and cafes. Steakhouses, Chinese restaurants, and specialty fish eateries compete with those offering local cuisine, pizzas, British favourites, fine Italian dining and so much more.

Entertainment

Those wanting a lively, vibrant night out can head to Veronica’s Strip where the bars and clubs create a true party atmosphere. For a quieter night, the numerous bars and cafes overlooking the seafront provide the perfect location to relax into the warm evenings.

Culture

While there is plenty in the way of beaches and bars in Playa De Las Americas, there are many more cultural experiences to be had.

The Piramide de Arona, a venue with 1500 seats, offers the best of Spanish culture and variety shows. The incredible Light and Fountain Show, which is free, should also be on your list.

Adventure and Sports

The warm waters are perfect for scuba diving or snorkeling and prepare to be astonished by the variety of colours on show from the marine animal and plant life. Also in the water, you can enjoy stand up paddle boarding, water-skiing, boat trips, or jet ski hire.

For those who prefer to remain on land, why not hire bikes, take a 4X4 trip, a walking tour or a game of golf or tennis.

Getting around

There is an efficient bus service on Tenerife. Look out for the ‘Bono Bus’ cards which will make bus travel even cheaper. The island can be explored independently by hiring a car or you could use one of the many taxis that queue up around town. Taxis are well regulated and often trips will have a fixed price.
