Playa Paraiso, Tenerife

Playa Paraiso

Located between Callao Salvaje and the famous Playa de las Americas Playa Paraiso is a developing resort on Tenerife’s southwest coast. Although it is quite a relaxed place, there’s still a number of great shops, fun bars and delicious restaurants.

When to go

Tenerife is hot year-round, with temperatures rarely below 20°C even in the winter, which means you can sunbathe comfortably even in December or January. But, for those looking to really heat things up, head to Playa Paraiso between July and September. During these months, you’ll experience virtually zero rainfall, highs of 29°C and lows of 20°.

Top Attractions

If you’re looking to escape the beach for a day or two, there are plenty of fun things for you to enjoy.

Nature lovers will delight in a trip up volcanic Mount Teide via a cable car or a tour around Teide National Park. It’s just an hour away from Playa Paraiso and is the highest mountain in Spain and the world’s third largest mountain volcano. For something a bit closer to home (er, your resort…) visit Salinas de Marchamalo, a nature reserve home to a wide selection of wildlife in Playa Paraiso.

Beaches

The most popular reason travelers, couples and families head to the Canary Island for holidays is, of course, to lounge (and play!) in the sun. Playa Paraiso doesn’t disappoint with a saltwater lido in the centre of the resort and eight beaches within a 15-minute drive.

In Costa Adeje, you’ll find two Blue Flag beaches and in Playa de las Americas, you’ll find six more beaches, all well-equipped for watersports.

Dining

Although small, the resort still boasts restaurants for all tastes, including a German restaurant and pizza. Needless to say, you’ll also find local cuisine. Don’t miss papas arrugadas and mojo (boiled potatoes served with chili pepper garlic sauce alongside meat dishes). It’s a traditional dish and is a Canary Island specialty.

Entertainment

While Tenarife is known worldwide for its nightlife, Playa Paraiso is a more laidback resort. Nonetheless, there are still plenty of options for anyone looking for a late night (or afternoon!) tipple.

For Brits looking for a nice, home-away-from-home pub, check out Eldon House Pub right in the heart of Playa Paraiso. There are also several beach bars where you can enjoy a cocktail or local beer while listening to the sound of the sea. In the mood for something a bit more lively? Head to Playa Honda or Playa De La Americas.

Adventure and Sports

Aside from a trip to (or up!) Mount Teide, there are plenty of adventures to be had in Playa Paraiso.

For families, you can enjoy your day at the Aqualand waterpark in Costa Adeje or the Jungle Park. Here, you’ll find suspension bridges, waterfalls, lagoons, caves, and (of course!) wild animals like leopards and tigers.

No kids? No problem! There are watersports-a-plenty available on various beaches including wind surfing and kite surfing. You could also enjoy a helicopter sightseeing tour around the island or a round (or two) of golf in nearby Golf del Sur.

Getting around

Playa Paraiso is just 20km from Tenerife South Airport. From here, visitors can either hire a car or arrange for a cab. If you don’t hire a car but want to get around, public buses depart from the airport and resorts at regular intervals.
