Bel Ombre, South Coast Mauritius

Bel Ombre

Bel Ombre, located in the southwest corner of Mauritius, is a charming resort that occupies an area of stunning natural beauty in the foothills of mountains. The scenery of Bel Ombre is certainly one of the highlights of the area, not to be missed is Black River Gorges National Park, a protected area of Mauritius’ rainforest and an excellent location to see much of the flora and fauna which make the island so special.

The area around Bel Ombre is home to several sugar plantation estates which point to Mauritius’ rich colonial past, which is reflected in the architecture of the many luxurious 5-star hotels in the resort.

When to go

Mauritius has a tropical climate, with moderately high temperatures and humidity all year around. Temperatures never rise to such high levels that they become unbearable.

The wettest period is from January to March (198-221mm per month), which for some make it an unattractive time to go. During these months, cyclones may pass nearby giving occasional heavy rain and wind.

May to November, on the other hand, are much drier and are a popular time to visit Bel Ombre. There is between 7 and 9 sunshine hours per day throughout the year and the south and southeast coast are slightly windier than the rest of the Island.
