The hotel was clean, friendly and the food was excellent. The speciality restaurants were slow but worth the wait and I expect them to get faster as they get used to cooking the menu. We expected there to be some initial teething troubles when arriving on the opening day for the hotel, there were some but very few considering and many of these were rectified while we were there. 
We were lucky enough to be upgrades to the Elite Club in Palace and consider the additional benefits this gives including a reserved swimming pool with large sun beds (bali beds) with daily towels supplied, to make a big difference to the holiday. 
The on-site diving school is excellent with great diving sites and a very knowledgable staff. 
My wife was made very welcome at the on-site spa and enjoyed full body massages and other pampering that was delivered to a high level by very friendly staff.

Riu hotels never disappoint. Food labeling in the restaurants are just a very serious concern. Many food items were labeled incorrectly. Someone with serious allergies could have a massive allergic reaction. 

Generally good experience

Riu Le monde (before palace it was called le monde). I was always amazed by its calmness without any spoil brats screaming around. So I got in touch with a local agency and I would recommend you book directly with the hotel it’s way more easier and they will be able to respond more directly since there is no third party. After booking it I began to regret my decision based on what I see online. Then days went by I decided to give it a try. 

We arrived at the hotel, I could see very few staff at the reception and one person a very kind gentleman jog to us and greet us with a warm smile and offer to take in our bags. There I left it and went to park my car. I gave them all my information and was offered two glass of champagne where you never get that in a four star hotel ! I had been given cheap infused water in top 5 five stars hotel in Mauritius. So a big thumbs up for that! 

Before I began I would like you readers to understand that this hotel is called Riu palace, its a four star hotel on the edge of Lemonde. 

I was given a map and well explained by Vickesh on the reception. I wanted to dine in the fine dinning restaurant so we chooses steakhouse and Bangalore.  ( You have to book atleast 48 hours in advance so you have to stay 4 days so you are able to do this). And we went to our room to freshen up. The property is new, fresh and modern. It is one of the hotel that have the concept of the hotel in the future more about a self service hotel. Its more of an approach to the future. The floors have elevators which is just marvelous for any kind of people. The room has got a built in bathroom , toilet together with a fresh look and lots of light for the ladies. 

The only bad thing about the room is that the beds are two beds joint together and a bit annoying when you move a lot in the bed. The balcony is wide open with a beautiful view but rooms on the corners might cause an issue where you could see in other people rooms. I guess a tinted terrace window should do the trick. You are provided with two incline chairs, ashtray and a hanger for wet clothes. 

Back in the bathroom, it is very clean with no mould. Do not worry about shampoo, gels etcs it of all good quality and way better than five stars in Mauritius. 

As we went through the hotel, you simply cannot complain for not having enough of food or drinks. Plenty of high quality pastry I was actually amazed by the capucino bar and VINOD was amazing during his service. Well manner person with a touch of good humor. The cakes were amazing and the coffees, hot chocolate really up to the level presented. The place itself is chic, up to date design with every detailed cared for.  We proceed to the pools, don’t forget your two towel cards and the in build bar.  As drinks you have lots of cocktails and mocktails, coffee, lassi, tea, Heineken, pheonix beer, chamarel rhum( premium rum of mru), some various brands too. 

Throughout the day you get snacks at pepe outlet till 17pm I think then you have a 24hr sports bar with lots of sandwiches, fruits and drinks. There are many bars around the hotel so there’s no way you feel like in the desert. We went to Bangalore, the concept was a buffet as starters and main course they would provide you various ones in copper pots lighten up on your table. The food was amazing, from starters to its dessert(buffet also) was simply good ! A 7/10 for the food. After diner,  we went to the main stage where there were some animation and an open dance floor. When it rain they would simply swap to the covered part of the area. I guess rain gutters could guide the water to another place same issue with the pergolas at the swimming pool. 

Apart from that it felt as it you were on a land cruise with similar vibe. The next day we went to the steak house this was just wonderful a fine dining restaurant. The waiter KEVIN was simply amazing! Such a nice person trying his best to explain to us the different plate proposed. 

Mckenzy at the reception is another gem in that hotel. Easy to communicate and understand you. So far I never remember people name those people made our stay a heaven. MCKENZY FROM THE RECEPTION, KEVIN FROM THE STEAKHOUSE, BAOBOLA FROM THE BUFFET RESTAURANT OF PALACE, RIKSHA FROM THE CUSTOMER SERVICE, VINOD FROM CAPUCINO, MELANIE manager,  and the rest that I forgot. Those people are the true gems to hotel, despite the hotel is new, Mauritius has a big issue of understaff we have no people to work in hotels a shortage of labor. Despite those issue imaging one person cater for 100 things at the same time. Frankly hats off to them ! I really hope that the management take in more staff with regular training. This hotel is my next hotel whenever I come back to MRU. I travel a lot with trying every kinds of hotel from the top luxurious hotel to to 4 stars hotels.

As for lunch. We had it at its buffet and just look at the picture you will understand you will have big belly for sure afterwards, quality ingredient used and I would suggest to ask the chef what is it before taking something if its not labeled. Its no big deal. As they’re refilled the food the label moves a lot. Easily fixable.
My appreciation for this hotel is something else. The only thing I would look at is more privacy in the balcony, the sun that hit from noon to 4 pm which makes it hard to sit by the balcony and chill. The beds, else keep it the same.  As for the weather in winter it is very very windy, the beach cant really be used apart its scenery. It is exact where the waterfall can be seen from the top.  As for the scenery it is simply wow ! I would suggest you download windy and see when it is less windy over there. You got to understand it not the hotel faults to stop the wind. 

And at last, palace is for people who look for calmness, quiet people and adults only. At turquoise its crowded, noisy and its like a fancy fair people getting drunk and crazy. I would stay away and appreciate the palace. Quality. The hotel staffs are friendly, very kind and this what will make us go back again. Regarding cakes I suggest you get yours from Kaz a Pain if you’re looking for a gourmet cake. In the hotel too they offer this service if requested in advance. I am posting some picture that you might relate. Thank you Melanie for making things better ! You know what you are doing as hectic it might be, all of the hard work will pay off !

What an amazing break !

We returned from this lovely hotel last week. When we arrived at reception we were dealt with very quickly, they were very helpful and our room was ready for us, but no welcoming drink as I read some people did get one. The room was kept very clean and they changed one of the optics for gin without a problem and the drinks  were replenished quickly. The extra treats we received, pringles, kit-kat and snacks, plus an iced bottle of sparkling wine, (which more than made up for the lack of a welcome drink), were a lovely extra. We stayed in the Elite section, it was more expensive but well worth it.  At the Elite pool the Bali beds as well as sun loungers were a big plus., the pool towels getting put out onto the beds and they replaced when they were wet, The waiters were so good and friendly, nothing seemed to much trouble. A special shout out to Vikram. The food at the pool bar was excellent, the ceasar salad was the best I've ever had, and my husband loved the freshly cooked pizzas.

At the Elite section for the main buffet we were always greeted with  a huge smile from Asgal and Juliet, they were so good and they couldn't do enough for you.  You could always find something you liked at the buffet.  Sometimes the food  wasn't as hot as I like them, and there was a lack of signs on the food, which could be a problem for anyone with an allergy, but all in all it was good.

We used all the Al a Carte restaurants, the Elite, the Krystal the Kaori and the Steakhouse and they were excellent, the staff and the food couldn't be faulted.  The Bangalore was the least favourite, it was very busy and the buffet food wasn't topped up.

We used the lobby bar the most. Vish was amazing, as soon as he saw us approaching he would have our drinks ready, always smiling and took time to talk to everybody.  The other bar staff were all really good including Sanchin. 

My husband used Scuba Caribe and really enjoyed the diving with them,  They were very knowledgeable and friendly.

The 24 hour sports bar has all the football on and you can get food there too.

We got another bottle of sparkling wine in our room on our wedding anniversary and at the Krystal restaurant where we dined that night.

With it being a new hotel and having only opened the week previous, there were a few teething problems but they good sorted very quickly.

We met some lovely people, and have thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A great holiday in a lovely hotel - thanks to the staff

This new hotel was suppose to be fully open at the end of May - this wasn’t the case.
There was still wall decoration going on around the hotel and other diy, pity it wasn’t fully completed even after 2 weeks!

We arrived on 4th June and we had an invite to meet the TUI rep, she was 45 minutes late, the hotel was trying to track her down in which they were told she was on her way, when she arrived she said she was busy - not a good start.  

We noticed that the main restaurant wasn’t open and we were told that we would have to use the Riu Turquoise restaurant next door for two days - not ideal but we had no choice.
The a la carte restaurants had limited availability due to the hotel having minimal occupancy, they were available to book on the Riu app which didn’t function properly as there was a bug on the system so we had to book at Reception but the frustrating thing was these speciality restaurants were showing that they were open five days a week but having seen the timetable that the Reception staff had availability was for two days only so we were paying for amenities that were not available.

The hotel specifically says that there are themed nights in the main restaurant - we never saw this.  Regarding the food it was ok but repetitive but be aware we noticed that there were flies on the food on the salad and dessert areas, as the hot food was under heat lamps it was all clear in these areas but unfortunately I had a bout of severe sickness & diarrhoea in which we had to call for a doctor - after receiving medication and advised to eat bananas and drink plenty of water that took 3 days from my holiday.  I spoke to Melanie who was Senior management when recovered about the hygiene and she introduced me to the chef, I suggested they cover food because of the flies, they agreed but over a week later nothing had been done.  

Entertainment was in the Turquoise which seemed to be geared up for families/ children but non existent regarding entertainment shows, hopefully it’ll get better?

The pool and beach areas were good, very windy this time of year which suited us and it was the start of the winter season so a lot of cloud but warm.

The hotel rooms very good although we had to call housekeeping quite a few times to remind them that tea/coffee and mini bar needed refreshing as not done when room was cleaned.

Regarding staff in the hotel those in the restaurants were so attentive and friendly,
John, Juliet and Mary were very competent and always smiling.
Vickish at Reception was helpful especially trying to book the a la carte restaurants for us, the staff in the a la carte restaurants were also good.   Big thanks to Vish in the main hotel bar he made our night with his wit and thank you to Melanie, Senior management who listened and helped with our queries and issues.

All in all if everything was completed in time and all amenities available then it would have been a great holiday and remembered for the right reasons and not the negatives.   If TUI had communicated with the Riu Palace throughout this total refurbishment they could have informed customers that the hotel was still undergoing 
maintenance and should give the customer the option to change to a later date.
