We joined this trip as Diamond members. Our personal friends Viviana, Luis and Margarita were always there to take special care of our family. Although the weather terrible we made the best of it. Next step is to visit the other Palace properties soon.

If you're like me...you probably have researched like crazy as you want to make sure you have the perfect hotel lined up to create that wonderful memory you're looking for with your family. The Grand is PHENOMENAL in some areas and MAJOR needs improvement in others. 

PHENOMENAL: The variety of food and entertainment options are absolutely on point. They are the best I have experienced given my previous stops ( Hyatt Zilara, Secrets the Vine, Secrets Playa Mujeres & Excellence Riviera Cancun) ---- all great by the way. For families with young kids, the grand surpasses them all in my opinion. The Wired Lounge 👍 Water Park 👍
NEEDS MAJOR IMPROVEMENT: The big one here is facilities facilities facilities and if I didn't mention it yet facilities. It is evident that MAJOR dollars were invested in building this beautiful hotel. Unfortunately,  the maintenance and upkeep are woefully lacking....like WOEFULLY lacking. In terms of customer experience, the facilities reflect the voice and priorities of what this facility ultimately values...i.e...bottom line vs being top of the line. In good conscience...I understand the dilemma...At its onset,  I feel like the vision was "we will create the biggest, most awesome, GRAND hotel and be all things to all people once and for all." In theory, I can see this being pulled off initially.  As vacations tend to ebb and flow, however,  the shine eventually wears off and the "reality of reality" kicks in. At the Grand, the condition of the facility reality hits HARD! Its an absolute beast of a hotel that in my opinion cannot sustain itself with the all inclusive model as no expense was seemingly spared during its construction.  Hence, the upkeep budget is either GRAND to keep up the vision...or you inevitably cut cost to ensure profitability...Completely understandable! From the consumer end, however, I promise you that you will find yourself making concessions and justifying what you paid to yourself given what you expected.  I promise...you will find this facility maintenance issue in every sector of the hotel...the rooms, the water park, the pathways, the ceilings, the theater...I found myself saying....."Who do we want to be Moon Palace?"  Who do we want to be? 

Apart from this issue which I think significantly detracts from the experience given what you pay, this hotel is on point at the highest of levels with everything else! 

The Grand? Kind of...

Don't stay here. No matter how good the deal is...don't do it. If you have kids, it's great. But here is what is not great.
1. Reservations are required at most of the restaurants and they fill up fast.
2. They will hound you to go to a sales meeting. They are relentless.
3. The quality of the food has gone down dramatically. We started going in Jan 2021. It was fabulous. We have been there every year since. Last year we brought friends. They hated the experience and the food so much they left and went to stay at the Waldorf Astoria.
4. The food at the buffet is tired looking 
5. A lot of the good places to sit at the pools or on the beach as inaccessible unless you are a diamond member.
6. The rooms are not well maintained.

You can find better options than this place.

Dear readers a review to help us all…I always say read them all, and decide for yourself…I did, and for the most part everyone enjoyed their stays, as did we…there are unfortunate circumstances that come up, and can ruin a trip, but for the most part you should be fine if prepared….weather is unpredictable, but it’s a risk you take in the summer rainy season…but we did not let it ruin our trip…it was raining the entire week we were there, it would stop here and there to enjoy the pool….to start I recommend coming later to check in, we did not wait at all…walked right up to the desk…I have seen during the day it does get busy…but I never saw a long line…this is a big place, if you are not wanting to walk around the resort, or want a more intimate experience this is not for you…couples, I don’t know why you would choose this resort, and expect peace and quiet…kids are running around everywhere….go to an adult only place, you will be much happier, unless it doesn’t bother you…maintenance is always happening, I felt bad they are honestly working on things constantly, but with rain and humidity things do get worn down…I did witness things break while we were there, but they would try to repair it when they could…only so much you can do when it’s raining all day long. I did not see trash in the water park, but I would see glasses all over the place, and I blame the people, can’t you just put your glasses on a table instead of at the side of the lazy river…that was disappointing….there were lifeguards at the water park and pools so not sure why that comment was made…the beach is not pretty… that was disappointing….we are beach people, so this was a deal breaker for us to return…seaweed is a problem, and the water is murky…we still hung out there, because my kids love to play in the sand, and we enjoyed the hammocks. The booking of restaurants…we didn’t have a hard time at all…you just book them when you wake up, you can reserve up to 3 days ahead.….we ate at almost all of them…our favorite was Habibi, it was excellent….tastes like home cooking for the most part…tabbouleh was the only thing that was off, not enough parsley….the spa was beautiful, and services were excellent. The membership….ok this is tricky, you either just say no from the get go, they won’t bother you, or you do it and say no, or you may like what you hear… it will brought up initially then it’s done….don’t feel pressured…the dance club was so fun…my husband and I went twice….the only reason I won’t return is the beach…but if that doesn’t bother you , you will love the pools and water park…I would give it 4.5 if I could, just because of the beach, but since I can’t it will have to be a 5, because we really had a great time…nothing was off…everyone was helpful, friendly, and kind…your kids will love it…

Fun for the family…just don’t go in the summer if rain bothers you, or if beach is important

We had the most amazing vacation at the Moon Palace Grand with our 7 and 4 year old boys. Best resort we’ve ever been to!! There is so much to do for kids and adults alike. The arcade, water park and kids club were a blast. We want to call out Montserrath, Emilia, Sarai, and Lisset at the kids club - they were so wonderful with our boys and really allowed us to relax with peace of mind.

Jesus at the adult day club was very attentive and made sure our every need was met. 

Esteban at the karaoke bar also was phenomenal and had our drinks memorized and always looked out for us to make sure we were having the most fun time!

We loved the food and resultants  -  especially Tappas el Vino (the small bites were delicious), Los Tacos (by the pool), and the star of the show was the Circus restaurant. Top notch in every single way - the food and entertainment for kids was beyond our expectations!! Truly a magical experience. 

We had a hard time getting to fully explore every restaurant because there are so many - let alone experience  the other resorts we had access to, but we will definitely be back!!! Thank you Moon Palace Grand for an exceptional experience!!
