Kantary Beach Villas and Suites

This hotel is rated as a 5 star hotel - it is definetely NOT a 5 star hotel! 

Upon arrival, we were checked into our villa - had requested a beachfront villa and we  were told, that costs extra and the hotel was fully booked, so this was not possible. No welcome drink - at all our other stays throughot Thailand we had received a welcome drink. This is not extremely important to me, mind you, but it would have been a nice touch. Other than that, we were not given any more information.
A cart driver then brought us and our luggage to the villa and explained a little on the way there re breakfast, minimart, beach, towels etc. 

The villa was quite roomy but had already seen better times: quite worn out, unappealing furnishings and unfortunately also quite dirty - cupboards and sideboard were dirty and had fingerprints all over it! The bathroom looked very dated - it had a large bathtub (!), the wasbasin was installed extremely low, and you could tell that the shower had been added on later throughout the last years.

Although the hotel grounds are quite large and it was fully booked, the beach was not extremely overcrowded as I had expected it to be. The beach is actually the very best part of this hotel! It is clean, white and you can enjoy endless beach walks from one side or the other! The hotel does not provide any umbrellas or service on the beach but usually you can find a place in the shade somewhere. Unfortunately, when we were there, a lot of huge jellyfish were in the water as well as stranded on the beach. 
Also unfortunately, hotel guests occupy sunbeds with their towels from early in the morning...

The hotel has two pools, which are mostly occupied by families. We did not use either one of them. Showers and toilets are near the pool and were not looked after.

The breakfast was buffet style with a nice enough variety of fruit, bread, charcuterie, eggs but surely not 5 star quality! The coffee was so awful, we could not even think about drinking it - so we asked if they also had cappuccino/espresso. They did, but you have to pay extra - the cost was 330 Bhat for 2 cappuccino's which is equal to 8,50 Euros! So yes, bloody expensive ie. european prices! For the next couple of days we just had the tea, which was ok, and had a coffee at the small beach restaurant next door.

We did not try the restaurant for lunch or dinner but went to the little (inexpensive) beach restaurants which were lovely!

The hotel offers massage facilities at a reasonable price in little huts near the beach. This is also a clear plus! You book the massage in the restaurant where you have breakfast, but you also need to go there again shortly before your massage to get a voucher - noone had explained this to us. Also beware, that the massage is very popular and you may have to book a day in advance. 

The hotel is quite isolated and thus offers a shuttle to the Bang Niang market, at a fee of 200 Bhat (both ways), also here you have to get a voucher which nobody told us beforehand. Plus, there was a mixup when we went back - the driver did not have our room number on his list and almost would not take us back...

The day before our checkout we received notice, that our pick-up would be at 4pm and we were advised by the travel agent to ask the hotel for a late ceckout. We did and were told as the hotel is fully booked, we have to check out at 12 noon at the latest and we could shower somewhere else. We were not at all happy with that, as we had seen the public hotel toilets and showers and they were, lets just say, not very appealing. Also waiting in the lobby of the hotel for a longer time is very unappealing - as it is an open lobby (no aircon!) and very hot! So we told the staff once more, we are not happy with that solution and would like to talk to the manager. They then came up with the idea of changing to a room after check out of our villa for a couple of hours - at a cost. We insisted on speaking to the manager and were able to do so in the late afternoon. The manager then promised us a room for the afternoon - at no cost - which we happily agreed to. 

All in all, let's just say that our stay was not as we had expected it to be and we will definetly not return.

Best thing about the hotel is the beach

Let's start with the positives, fantastic beach, white sands, shallow warm water, palm trees, (as you would expect with a view like that all sun beds are snapped quickly). We found the staff in general to friendly and approachable. Yes the rooms are little bit dated but we found them to clean and comfortable. I was surprised that there was no lift and happy to tip to the staff member who had to lug our bags up the stairs. The final positive was the amount of birdsong we heard, more than the jungle trek I went on.

Now the negatives 😐 the major one was the food! It was awful, we paid for half board but decided half way through our stop that the only meal we would eat in the hotel was breakfast. As you got offerd the same uninviting menu all day. Also everything in the hotel is so expensive! We didn't realise until one evening we went into town and eat at the "Green pepper"  where we had a starter each, two mains, ( all very tasty) two drinks and water for less than we had paid two uneddable sandwiches and drinks at our hotel. As for the mini mart the little selection of over priced junk food. It had a picture of crossiant on which we enquired and was told  ( by a puzzled shop assistant) that it was not available. 
My tip is to buy your snacks for the next day in town when you go there to eat in the evening, and that is another moan. It is too far and dangerous to walk into town so you have to use the hotels shuttle bus, which goes infrequently during the day. Most hotels I have used this it's  free and you just turn up, but here you have book a slot and there is a fee. If you want to travel outside these times there is a higher fee.

I always try to finish on a positive and that is you can access your  Netfix account from your room and of coutse beach is spectacular.

Fantastic beach, friendly people, terrible food!

After completing a 7 day guided tour with another couple, we arrived at Kantary Beach Hotel with a delicious welcome drink of fresh cold orange juice which was what we needed after a long day! 
 
We checked into our villa after not being able to unpack for 7 days due to traveling around with a sigh of relief ! Our luggage was taken off our hands and lifted on to a golf buggy, we jumped on only to be taken 20 yards. 

A lovely cool great sized villa with two different air conditioning units so one can remain on throughout the night removing those mid-sleep cold shivers at night.

-Breakfast each day was great! There was lots of variety and topped up even when you sleep in that little later than expected and arrive 15 mins before breakfast is finished.
Items included an Omelette station, fresh fruit and juices, along with those pastries your obliged to have (you're on holiday- why not!) 

-We where given a dinner coupon for each of us for dinner for two nights. We used them on the first and second night, we where looking forward to dinner on our first night as we where starting to wind down. 

The menu wasn't extensive however we are both quite easy going and have no dietary requirements. I had the prawn cocktail and my partner had the vegetable spring rolls both where really nice and fresh. For mains however I had noodles in dark Soy and felt disappointed as there was no flavour and was not the usual fragrant and fresh flavours I had become accustomed to. My partner had the garlic and pepper chicken which smelt amazing. I think if we had been on an all inclusive package we would have been disappointed as this menu didn't change at all and just a short walk along the beach either way you could find so much better value and choice. 

*Please note there is a service charge and tax charge which is an 17% added to the bill (even at happy hour) so just head to the beach bars.*  

-The location of the hotel is great specifically for those who have maybe seem Thailand before or just love the beach.  For two days we moved around the beach for two days myself having English/Welsh/Irish skin was easily able to find a knook of shade wish was bliss nestled underneath the trees lining the beach. Please watch out for jelly fish we got stung!- the beach restaurants are very used to this and immediately gave us some margarine (vinegar and full fat coke also work) to take away any stinging. DO NOT WASH WITH FRESH WATER!  

Beach towels are provided  FREE from the hotel which was great along with some of the beach activities however the weather was just too good. The hotel staff where great at ordering taxi's and even ringing the restaurant at the end of the road to check to see if it was open and even one night in monsoon rain fall gave four of us a lift in the golf buggy down there. 

Two days prior to the conclusion of our holiday both myself and my partner had an accident on a mo-ped we rented. Consequently we where then confined to our room for two and a half days, unable to attend Breakfast or go to the beach. 
The Staff where impeccable ! 
They delivered breakfast to our villa and picked us up from the villa to take us to the main reception as we where collected each day for our medical appointments. They then took us back to the villa upon our return. We where so grateful!
The night before we were due to head back to the UK we decide a last hooray meal was needed. We couldn't manage very far and decided the restaurant at the end of the road was perfect. We asked the main desk to check they were open and if we could trouble someone to take us there which they did. Thankfully the answer was yes, however once we arrived all the lights where off. Dread started to sink in!!

Too the rescue the owner who we had met on a previous visit flicked the lights on and soon enough our drinks order was taken and the distant sound of a mo-ped could be heard. Sure enough arrived grandmother (whom cooked all the dishes) and granddaughter (who was a great waitress). They opened up just for us!
Other than a group of four having had ordered a drink only each, we where the only visitors that night. 

We where able to have a lovely last meal even though the whole of my left side and my partners foot, knee and arm was all bandaged up. We felt very looked after and cared for. We both had never been to Thailand before and we loved it! 
Thailand, the people, the culture, words cannot describe the kindness we received by all.

Kindness a Sting and a Injury or Two

Nice private beach, calming and very beautiful. Sunset vibes at beach is very impressive to me. Room is quite big and comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful, especially Khun Tee. He’s very nice and has a very good services during my stay. I am sure to visit again with my daughter.

Absolutely wonderful stay, the beach front villa was amazing and the food was lovely! Pool was excellent and very clean, shop was well stocked and the front desk very helpful!
