We stayed for 3 weeks in this older style hotel, ok it didn't have all the amenities of newer builds, but it felt very traditional and was very comfortable.  The furnishings are very old fashioned but still functional.  We were in a superior room and the window to the balcony covered the whole of the wall which gave uninterrupted views of the gardens.  It was a good sized room with twin beds pushed together ( we would have preferred one king-size bed but maybe this is not offered in this superior room).  There is sufficient storage space, a safe, umbrellas, tea and coffee and two bottles of water supplied daily.  The fridge has a freezer compartment but no ice tray, so take ice bags with you.  There is a TV in the room.  The bathroom is a good sized with a very large shower compartment, the water was always hot but the water power was not good.  Shower gel, shampoo and body lotion are supplied. The rooms are cleaned daily.  We had two chairs and a small table on the balcony, but the chairs were uncomfortable.

Breakfast area has an inside section completely enclosed or an outside section, roofed but not enclosed.  The selection and quality of the items at breakfast was generally very good, apart from the juices which were diluted cordials, sometimes diluted a little too much.  The coffee however was excellent, as were the omelettes which are freshly made on request.

Beach towels are supplied which are an excellent size and are changed on request.
You can access the entrance to the beach walkway from a small door at the bottom of the garden rather than walking up to reception, it is about a 6 minute walk to the beach.  There are no facilities on the beach and the seas here can be very rough due to a shelf running along causing an undertow, so care is required.

The grounds around the buildings and pool areas are very well kept.  As others have stated reserving sunbeds around the pools from very early in the morning does take place.

This is a very well run hotel and the staff are professional, efficient and very friendly. 

A breakfast box can be requested for early departures or days out.  There are many good restaurants close to the hotel and taxis can be found at the end of the road, 150 bhat for two people into Bang Nieng.

Enjoyable stay

A warm and friendly welcome at Reception with cool towels and cold tropical juice. Shown to our room by the maintenance man who doubled up as our Porter so no humping luggage. The room had been pre-cooled by an aircon company who make fridges for food trucks so wonderfully chilled. Spotless room with plenty of storage space,large bathroom with huge walk in shower. Everything works. Friendly and attentive staff always on hand to help. The standard Thai rock hard beds so bring toppers if that bothers you. Despite being close to ‘The Strip’ traffic noise is minimal as the local shops and restaurants act as a barrier to the noise. Breakfast is of good quality(ask for bacon if you want it) with a wide variety of food on offer. I find the coffee from the machines is excellent. Only early days but we haven’t had a single problem so far. You know when the maid has been and so far that’s been daily. Thank you to all the hard working and friendly staff for making our stay as comfortable as possible. The accommodation as a whole really does feel like you’re on the edge of the tropical jungle. Their swimming pools are quite shallow so midday can become too warm for swimming but the ‘cold’ showers freshen you up and cool you off. Katathani should be proud of the staff here.

Peace and beauty at The Leaf.

We stayed in Khao Lak for 7 days at the Leaf. 

Rooms are fairly basic and a little dated but immaculately clean. The resort is small and easy to get around, staff are friendly and courteous and the pool area was lovely and peaceful ( we used the leaf pool, not the fun pool). Pool was very warm however it can't be helped in April due to the heat and humidity, and pool towels are provided daily as well as fresh bottled drinking water. Rooms were cleaned daily.
The breakfast was fine - seemed to have a bit of everything and it was never overly busy and the coffee was good.
The areas around the resort is well maintained, there was always someone watering, mowing or raking up leaves. Reception staff very friendly and allowed us a late checkout for a small charge.

There is a private path to the beach however there are no beds which was a little disapointing, however having walked the length of the beach this seems to be the case everywhere which was a bit of a shame as we like to spend a couple of days at the beach. There is a couple of lovely bars for some lunch though so it is worth a walk down for a couple of hours.

The location couldn't be better. A 2 minute walk from reception and you are on the strip however you don't notice the noise from the hotel. Some lovely restaurants (we loved Little Italy for the pizza and Pattys for a lunchtime burger and a beer). Plenty of shops, massage places, bars, supermarkets etc.

We spent the first week in Thailand at Karon Beach and much preferred the peace of Khao Lak to the noise and hustle and bustle of Karon.

We wouldn't hesitate to return to the Leaf on our next trip to Thailand.

A little gem of a place

Good 3 star budget hotel staff friendly rooms cleaned daily breakfast was ok and the restaurant turns into a Italian on the evening that was very good 2 pools one near reception quieter usual pool towel problems on sun beds some all day and guests never even turned up to use ! 5 minutes walk to beach sadly no sun beds ect  hotel is 2 minutes walk to main strip restaurants massage gifts was a good chilled stay

Good location friendly staff

This was our third time at this hotel, we love it’s position close but not too close to everything and as ever the staff were really lovely and helpful. The breakfast offered everything we could want. Unfortunately this hotel is now in need of a complete refurbishment, the furniture isn’t fit for purpose i.e. no drawers in bedside cabinet, drawers not closing properly and veneer lifting off unit tops. The whole atmosphere is tired, when we arrived the gardens were in desperate need of mowing and hedges trimming, in our three weeks here the grass was mown once and the hedges not done at all, please note this is not a criticism of the gardener as he is on his own and it definitely requires more than one gardener. We have always enjoyed our time at this hotel but it is now in definite need of a revamp, new furniture and new bedding and towels as there were holes in our bedding.

Lovely staff, tired hotel.

Located in the centre of the Khao Lak area, the resort is just an hour drive away from the Phuket International Airport. The hotel is surrounded by a beautiful resort villas bungalow and landscaped tropical gardens.  

The hotel boasts a fitness centre, massage pavillion, and two outdoor swimming pools, one including a swim-up bar and a childrens pool. The hotel's restaurant is located next to the lobby, and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere with stunning view over the lotus pond and naturalistic surroundings.
